Our
Beginning
Pieter de Boer immigrated from the Netherlands to the United States in 1912 as a 21-year-old butcher. Flora, Pieter’s wife-to-be, joined him and the couple was married soon after. In 1945, Pieter and Flora de Boer bought 80-acres in the town of Sherry with a dream to farm.

Pieter and Flora's grandson, William “Bill” de Boer, bought the property from Pieter in the late 1960s and took over farming. Never one to sit still, Bill also worked for local contractors, driving trucks and logging during the winters.
Bill purchased a John Deere dozer for work around the farm, but soon local farmers began calling to hire Bill for earthmoving work on a freelance basis. This marked the start of an excavating business.
Bill continued to farm and milk cows, while his wife, Marlene, kept books and children, Pam and Dan, helped out for the newly-established de Boer Excavating.
1974 - 2001
Earth, Inc.

In 1974, de Boer Excavating was renamed Earth, Inc. A new shop was built on the farm property in 1981 to accommodate the expanding equipment fleet.
With two dump trucks, Bill and Dan started D&D Trucking, later renamed Earth Transport, Inc.
In 1987, as operations expanded, the office was relocated to a newly constructed office building.
Earth, Inc. purchased a rock crusher fleet and opened its first quarry in 1999, establishing the Materials Division of the company.
2002 - Present
Earth, Inc.

In 2002, Dan acquired and took ownership of Earth, Inc. Under his leadership, the transformation of the company continued.
In 2004, the first equipment GPS systems were added to improve grade accuracy and job efficiency, followed by a north shop addition, installation of a 20-ton capacity overhead crane system, and continued office and shop expansion.
Today, Earth, Inc. continues to grow as a team and provide services and materials for a variety of clients. From its roots in farming, Earth, Inc. strives to uphold a legacy of honest work and continuous innovation.
